USC research unit signs lease for 1400 Pickens

The Institute for Public Service and Policy Research has signed a new lease for office space at 1400 Pickens St. in downtown Columbia.

Colliers International’s senior brokerage associate Henry Roe, representing the landlord Baker & Baker Real Estate Developers LLC, brokered the lease for 8,111 square feet of space.

The institute, which will be open for business at its new location in September, is an interdisciplinary research and public service unit of the University of South Carolina. It addresses current and emerging issues relating to matters of public policy, governance and leadership through research, educational activities, publications and direct-assistance programs.

Roe has worked with the building’s landlord to develop a leasing plan that focuses on capital improvements and repositioning. Initiatives include a new building entrance, main lobby renovations, elevator and restroom upgrades.

The six-story, 63,600-square-foot office building is adjacent to the USC administration center, 1600 Hampton St., and two blocks from the future home of the USC Law School, between Gervais and Senate streets.
