The International House of Pancakes restaurant, a long-time fixture located on Assembly Street across from the Statehouse, will be getting a new look.
At Thursday night’s meeting of the Design/Development Review Commission, representatives of the restaurant’s franchisee presented plans to replace the existing facility at 1031 Assembly with a new 4,000-square-foot building.
The new building will seat about 164 customers or about 30 more than the present facility, said Brian Thomas, with DP3, a Greenville-based architecture firm.
The building also will feature an expanded kitchen and additional parking, Thomas added.
Overall, the site at Assembly and Senate seats will be expanded to about a half-acre with the purchase of an adjoining lot, he added.
The commission signed off on the design at Thursday’s meeting and Thomas said construction could begin in about 30 days.
Contractors aim to have the new restaurant ready this fall.
