Wabtec Corp. will be relocating and expanding its Columbia distribution center operations to a 71,400-square-foot building at 949 Rosewood Drive.
Wabtec supplies products and services for rail, transit and industrial markets. It currently occupies a 40,000-square-foot building at 1222 Bluff Road.
“After evaluating Wabtec’s existing facilities in Columbia, we were able to find a space better suited to their needs that will increase efficiency and productivity,” said Ben Brantley, senior vice president of CBRE Columbia, which represented Wabtec in the transaction
Wabtec has 125 employees in Columbia, about 15% higher than in 2009, a spokesman said.
“We are moving into a larger facility to accommodate our growth in sales and capabilities over the past few years, and to enable the growth we expect in the future,” he added.
The Columbia facility is part of Wabtec Global Services division, which provides service, maintenance and repair work for components such as compressors and brake valves, used on locomotives, freight cars and subway cars.
Wabtec’s customers include large railroads and public transit agencies in the United States. Wabtec, which employs about 8,500 worldwide, reported $2 billion in sales for 2011.
