Mayville Engineering Co. Inc. of Wisconsin said Monday it acquired Michigan-based Center Manufacturing Inc., which operates a 234,000-square-foot manufacturing plant in Greenwood.

Terms of the acquisition were not released.

Center is a supplier of complex assemblies, large and small diameter tubes, fuel tanks, fluid-level indicators and other products to the automotive, construction and agriculture industries, among others. Founded in 1969, Center has eight facilities in Michigan, Virginia, South Carolina and Mississippi.

A spokesman said no changes are planned at any of Center’s locations.

Mayville Engineering, an employee-owned company founded in 1945, operates eight facilities in Wisconsin and has 1,200 employees. It provides prototyping, production manufacturing, fabricating, tube forming, coating and assembly services to a variety of markets, including the agricultural, construction, military, recreational, medical and industrial sectors.

“This acquisition brings together two great companies into one great team,” said Mayville Chairman, President and CEO Robert Kamphuis in a news release. “Center and MEC both have long histories, blue-chip customers and a talented and committed workforce. We’re delighted to welcome Center’s employees to the MEC family, and we’re excited to work together to keep growing our expanded company.”

Richard Nielsen will remain president and CEO of Center Manufacturing, Mayville’s newest division, and will be involved in integrating the two companies. It is anticipated that all of Center’s 800 employees will remain with the organization, and no changes are expected in the foreseeable future.

“We are very excited about this acquisition and what it means for our employees and our customers,” Nielsen said in a news release. “Both Center and MEC are outstanding companies with solid corporate values and great employees that will be important for the future. MEC is clearly a strategic long-term investor that is excited about growing the combined company. This acquisition strengthens our joint future and enhances our ability to compete for the long term.”
