Doctors Care managers, medical staff and representatives from Cohn Construction broke ground on a new medical center Friday in Columbia.

The new Ridgeview facility, in front of the Publix shopping center at 4611 Hardscrabble Road, will replace the current Ridgeview urgent care center, located at 4214 Hardscrabble Road.

Dr. Thomas Gibbons, Doctors Care president, and the needs of the area have outgrown the capacity of the current facility, according to a news release.

Physicians and staff in the current Ridgeview location will move into the new 4,350-square-foot facility at its anticipated opening date in early summer 2013.

“Our new center will integrate thoughtfully designed, comfortable spaces with the newest technology and equipment to ensure we are meeting the modern day needs of our patients and community. From better parking outside, to state-of-the-art features inside, the new Ridgeview center was designed with our patients in mind — as exceptional customer service and medical care remain our primary focus,” Gibbons said in a news release.
