The South Carolina Department of Transportation has scheduled a public information meeting tonight concerning the proposed U.S. 1 bridge replacement over CSX Railroad.

The bridge, on Two Notch Road, is just before the intersection with Fontaine Road as motorists drive away from downtown Columbia. The state transportation agency wants to upgrade the existing structure that is structurally deficient and provide additional clearance over the railroad.

The meeting will have a drop-in format with project displays available for viewing. Informal, written and verbal comments will be collected during the meeting. A brief presentation regarding the proposed project will be conducted at 6 p.m.

The meeting is intended to provide information and solicit feedback from area residents concerning the project. SCDOT will also gather information from the public or any interested organization on historic or cultural resources in the area.

The meeting will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at Heyward Career & Technology Center, 2560 Lynhaven Drive, Columbia.
