Columbia to open ice rink Thanksgiving Day

Boyd Plaza in downtown Columbia has been transformed into an ice-skating rink.

Main Street Ice is scheduled to open to the public Thanksgiving Day at the corner of Hampton and Main streets, in front of the Columbia Museum of Art.

The rink will be open from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and resume the regularly scheduled hours Friday. Admission is free on Thanksgiving Day.

City of Columbia and Magic Ice U.S.A. Inc. have partnered to bring the ice-skating rink to the community.

The rink will be open seven days a week. Hours of operation will be Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 to 9 p.m. The rink will be closed Christmas Day.

Skating fees will be $10 for adults and $8 for children ages 12 and under. Special senior and military discounts will be offered. Reservations will be taken for large groups planning to visit the rink. Fees include skate rentals.

Main Street Ice will remain open until Jan. 6.
