Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Co. has been named the top benefits carrier in five categories by brokers across the country in the 2012 Benefits Selling Readers' Choice Awards program.

The national publication is targeted to brokers and agents who sell group and voluntary insurance products. It features the results of its annual awards program each November.

Benefits Selling asked readers to name their top carrier in eight categories important to brokers today. Colonial Life was named the winner in five categories:

  • Best at working with brokers
  • Best service from an enrollment company
  • Best at embracing new technologies
  • Best consumer-driven health care products
  • Best prepared for health care reform

"This is the seventh straight year we've been recognized by brokers as the clear choice for voluntary benefits," said Tim Arnold, Colonial Life's senior vice president of sales and marketing. "Many brokers are finding voluntary benefits can be an important extension of their business, and Colonial Life continues to be their preferred partner.”

Enrollment service garnered particularly strong ratings for Colonial Life, the magazine said.

"In the biggest blowout of this year's competition, Colonial (Life) took nearly 60% of the vote, earning a better margin of victory than most presidential races," the magazine reported. "The people at Colonial (Life) clearly know what they're doing when it comes to enrolling."

It's the fourth time Colonial Life has won five first-place awards.
