South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson has named J. Mark Powell as the office's communications director.
Powell will handle inquiries from the news media, field interview requests and maintain contact with reporters, editors and other interested parties.
His annual salary will be $67,500.
Powell most recently served as communications director for U.S. Rep. Frank Guinta, R, N.H., in Washington, D.C. from January 2011 through September.
He has nearly 30 years in local and national news, including 14 years at CNN in Atlanta. His reporting ranged from the county courthouse to the White House. He is the recipient of several journalistic awards and is a published novelist.
