More than 200 business and community leaders came together Wednesday night to honor 20 Heath Care Hero award winners.
The annual event recognizes people in the Midlands who have a passion for health care and compassion for patients.
Winners were announced during a dinner at the Columbia Marriott in seven categories: community outreach, first responders, health care professional, health care researcher, nurse, physician and volunteer.
Winners included a West Columbia policeman who put his own safety at risk to help an injured motorist, a doctor who went the extra mile to help a teenage rape victim, and a 94-year-old volunteer who continues to use her musical skills to enrich the lives of others.
