Continental Tire the Americas recently completed a $4 million, 16,000-square-foot addition to its corporate headquarters in Fort Mill.
Continental, which opened its Lancaster County headquarters three years ago, said the expansion creates room for 80 new employees who are expected to be hired over the next four years.
The 91,000-square-foot building currently serves as the workplace for about 375 people.
“Continental Tire the Americas has experienced significant business growth due to the increasing demand for Continental and General brand passenger, light truck and commercial tires,” said CEO Jochen Etzel. “As a result, our company is able to invest in and expand our facilities to meet such needs.”
On Friday, Etzel presented a $10,000 check to the local Boys & Girls Club and donated tires to the Lancaster Fire Department.
“Continental Tire the Americas has enjoyed an outstanding relationship with the local community over the past few years,” Etzel said. “We find it of the upmost importance to reciprocate the support that Lancaster County and the state of South Carolina have offered us.”
Continental also is investing $500 million in a 1-million-square-foot car and light truck tire manufacturing facility near Sumter. Continental, which expects to complete the first phase of the plant in 2013, said the Sumter operation will employ 1,600.
