BlueChoice HealthPlan of South Carolina today announced new plans to cover families, including children.
Family coverage has been available for BlueChoice members enrolled in an employer's plan, but not until now for families that buy insurance on their own.
BlueChoice said it is offering eight flexible family plans with a variety of coinsurance, deductible and benefit levels. The plans are part of BlueChoice's MyChoice Individual Health Coverage, which also includes eight policies for individual adults.
All MyChoice plans cover preventive services, prescriptions, physician services, inpatient and outpatient hospital care, urgent care and emergency services, durable medical equipment, mental health and substance abuse treatment, vision care and dental services. BlueChoice's wellness and disease management programs are also included.
Family plans cover all children as long as the primary policyholder is a parent or guardian at least 19 years old.
"We designed our new family plans to be both affordable and rich in benefits," said BlueChoice President Mary Mazzola Spivey, in a news release. "Our plans emphasize preventive medicine, early detection and management of diseases, and prompt treatment."
Headquartered in Columbia, BlueChoice HealthPlan of South Carolina is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association. BlueChoice HealthPlan is a subsidiary of BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina.
