NextEra Energy names former SCE&G president to board

Jack Skolds, former president and COO of South Carolina Electric & Gas, has been named to the board of NextEra Energy, a Florida-based energy provider.

"Jack Skolds brings a breadth and depth of business and industry experience and insights that will be a great benefit to the board and senior management," said Lew Hay, NextEra Energy executive chairman.

Skolds, of Charlotte, N.C., retired in September 2007 as executive vice president of Exelon Corp. and as president of its energy delivery and generation units.

Skolds, 62, joined Exelon in 2000 as senior vice president of the corporation and COO of Exelon Nuclear. He subsequently served as president and chief nuclear officer of Exelon Nuclear.

Prior to joining Exelon, Skolds served for five years as president and COO of Cayce-based SCE&G, principal subsidiary of investor-owned SCANA Corp.

Skolds earned a bachelor's degree from the U.S. Naval Academy, where he graduated with distinction, and an MBA from the University of South Carolina. He spent five years in the Navy training for and operating nuclear submarines.

Headquartered in Juno, Fla., NextEra had revenues of more than $15.3 billion in 2011. Its principal subsidiaries include Florida Power & Light Co., which serves approximately 4.6 million customers in Florida, and NextEra Energy Resources LLC, a generator of renewable energy from wind and sun.
