The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has selected two resident inspectors to see that safety regulations and building code requirements are met in the construction of two reactor units at the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station at Jenkinsville.

“Patrick Donnelly and Mike Magee have the background and dedication to help ensure that construction at the Summer site is completed according to NRC regulations and in a way that protects people and the environment,” said Fred Brown, NRC Region II deputy regional administrator for construction.
Each operating U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site has at least two NRC resident inspectors, who serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility. Inspectors are responsible for conducting regular inspections, monitoring significant work projects, and interacting with plant workers and the public. Inspectors can serve for up to seven years at any one site.
Construction sites also have their own resident inspectors and the number assigned is dependent on the work at each site.
Donnelly, a mechanical engineer, joined the NRC in November 2008 as a project manager for the Westinghouse AP1000 nuclear reactor design certification amendment. Two AP1000 units are being built at the V.C. Summer plant.
Magee, who is also a mechanical engineer, began his NRC career in 2008 as a project manager in the Office of New Reactors at NRC headquarters in Rockville, Md. In 2010, Magee joined the NRC’s resident inspector development program in Region II.
In March, the NRC issued a combined construction and operating license for units 2 and 3 to South Carolina Electric & Gas and Santee Cooper, which operate an existing reactor unit at the Fairfield County facility.
