Sony Corp. of America names USC alumnus as general counsel

University of South Carolina alumnus Mark E. Khalil has been named general counsel and executive vice president of New York-based Sony Corp. of America.

Khalil, who has been with the company since 1989, will report to Nicole Seligman, president of SCA, the U.S. subsidiary of Sony Corp., headquartered in Japan. Khalil previously served as senior vice president of the company’s legal department.

"I have worked closely with Mark on many complex issues since I came to Sony over a decade ago, and I have great confidence in his ability to represent SCA as our top legal adviser," Seligman said.

As general counsel, Khalil will oversee the subsidiary’s legal department, providing legal support to SCA and various corporate and business units. He will also assume the role of corporate secretary.

"I am honored to be appointed to lead SCA's legal affairs," Khalil said.

After graduating from USC, Khalil received his law degree from Rutgers University School of Law. He joined Sony Electronics as an attorney in 1989 and later was named vice president, group counsel. He moved to SCA in 2001. Since 2011, he has served as president of Sony USA Foundation, the company’s philanthropic arm.
