The Greater Chapin Chamber of Commerce is hosting a community summit on March 8 in Chapin.

The summit is seeking to attract residents of the 29036 zip code community as well as people who work in Chapin.

Earlier this year, the chamber sponsored a brief survey to gauge opinions of business owners and residents in the 29036 zip code about life in the Chapin community. The results will be presented at the town-hall style meeting and will help shape the chamber’s Economic Development Committee’s work for the coming years.

“We are committed to working with Mayor Stan Shealy and the town’s leadership along with our Lexington County delegation to support efforts that promote smart growth in Chapin. We need to work together as a community to meet our increasing infrastructure needs while maintaining the charming, small town atmosphere along the lake that has attracted so many new residents and businesses,” said Erin Long, chair of the chamber’s board of directors. “Our goal is to inform people throughout our larger 29036 community about the vision our leaders have for Chapin’s future and learn how we can become more engaged to assist our elected officials reach that vision.”

The program for the meeting includes updates from the mayor, the Greater Chapin Community Endowment, and the chamber’s economic development activities, as well as a presentation from Lexington County Council member Johnny Jeffcoat on the status of the Columbia Avenue widening project. Upon conclusion of the presentations, there will be a forum for questions and answers that will allow attendees to share their comments and feedback.

The summit starts at 7 p.m. March 8 at Mount Horeb Lutheran Church, located at 101 E. Boundary St. in Chapin. Attendance is free and light refreshments will be served. For more information, contact the Chapin chamber at 803-345-1100.
