The housing market in South Carolina should begin making a comeback this year, according to Grubb & Ellis Wilson Kibler, a commercial real estate firm with offices in Columbia.
Wayne Smith, the firm’s managing director of special assets, said there should be gradual improvements in the housing market in general and the new housing market in particular.
“We expect another good, but unpredictable year,” Smith said.
Grubb& Ellis also reported that its special assets division exceeded projections in sales in its first year of operation.
Although the firm did not release sales figures, it said the division handled the sale and purchase of more than 100 single-family lots in the Columbia and Greenville markets in December alone.
The group concentrates in the areas of bulk sales of single-family lots, condominiums, single-family homes and residential land transactions.
“Amid the uncertainty of the housing market, we have found opportunity and have been fortunate to represent land owners, institutions, and builders assisting in their dispositions and acquisitions,” Smith said.
