The Palmetto Health board of directors announced that William L. Freeman III, the vice president of sales at VOA Canada, will be chairman of the board in 2012.

Jerome D. Odom, executive director of University Foundations at the University of South Carolina, will be treasurer.
Traci Young Cooper, director of Extended Day Programs & Partnerships at Richland School District One, will be secretary of the board.
The board also welcomed new members Jean E. Duke, financial consultant; Calvin H. Elam, CEO of ProVest Wealth Management Group; John W. Foster Jr., J. W. Foster Agency; Dr. William C. Gerard, emergency medicine physician with Carolina Care PA; and Dr. James H. Herlong, retired urologist.
Palmetto Health employs more than 8,000 people in the Midlands. It is composed of four hospitals — Palmetto Health Richland, Palmetto Health Baptist, the Heart Hospital and Children's Hospital.
