Sopakco Inc. has been awarded a $74.7 million contract to provide meals ready to eat, or MREs, to the U.S. military.
The Mullins-based company is expected to fulfill the contract by Dec. 31, 2011. The MREs will be used by the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps and federal civilian agencies.
Sopakco has more than $100 million in annual sales and for more than 60 years has been supplying food to the U.S. military. Today the company is the leading supplier of MREs to the U.S. military, according to the company’s website.
