Two Columbia radio stations owned by Double O Radio Group will change their formats Friday as their new general manager, Tim Miller, returns to the Columbia broadcast scene.
A veteran of Midlands-area radio and television, Miller is the former morning news and weather anchor for WACH-TV.
On Friday at noon, WWNU-FM, New 92, will become Carolina 92.1 with the format and slogan of “Lite Relaxing – Easy Favorites.” WWNQ-FM, Flashback 94.3, will become 94.3 The River, Columbia’s Classic Hits Station. The stations will hold an open house on Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1010 Gervais St.
Miller acknowledges the challenge before him in revamping two stations. “The potential for these stations is enormous,” he said. “I want to see us be more active in the community, both from a business standpoint and through community service.”
Miller will return to the air with a weekday morning show from 6 to 10 on Carolina 92.1. He said the show will be community-oriented with games, contests, news and weather at the top of the hour and a focus on talking to people in the Midlands who are making news.
