Program offers help to businesses wanting to reduce energy costs

The S.C. Energy Office is now providing free energy assessments for public, nonprofit and private organizations.

These studies can provide practical guidance for how businesses can slash their utility bills, freeing funds for other purposes.

The need to cut utility costs is clear. In South Carolina, electricity prices have risen more than 22% in the last 10 years, while natural gas prices have risen almost 100%, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.

Businesses eligible for this assessment and other technical assistance on energy-related issues must own their own facilities and can provide energy bills for the past year. These services will be provided by the Energy Office through a team of energy consultants made available through an application process.
