Emilye Mobley has joined the Governor’s School of Science and Mathematics administration as the new vice president for student development.
In this role, Mobley is responsible for all non-academic programs including admissions, residence life, student activities, health services, athletics, counseling and college placement.
“My vision for student development at GSSM is to make the out-of-class experience as educationally purposeful as the in-class experience,” Mobley said.
With a research background in character development and organizational behavior, Mobley said she hopes to enhance the college preparatory experience that GSSM students receive.
Prior to coming to GSSM, Mobley worked throughout the Southeast, serving small colleges in a variety of roles including vice president for student affairs at Bennett College in Greensboro, N.C.; dean of students at North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, N.C.; and director of residential life at Spelman College in Atlanta.
For the last two years, she has served as an educational consultant while completing her doctoral studies at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Mobley holds a master's degree in counseling and guidance from UNC Greensboro and a bachelor's degree in education from UNC Chapel Hill. She also completed the Institute for Educational Management at Harvard University and participated in the Oxford Roundtable in Oxford, England.
