The March of Dimes S.C. Chapter announced that William C. “Bill” Boyd will receive the organization’s 2009 Real Estate Award, which highlights the outstanding contributions of an individual in the real estate industry.

Boyd is a shareholder of Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd P.A. law firm. He has managed numerous mergers and acquisitions and large-scale industrial projects, including the assembly and acquisition of property, environmental and other governmental permitting, and financing.

Bill Boyd The Columbia Real Estate Award breakfast will be at 7 a.m. Dec. 10 at Embassy Suites in Columbia. Chairman of this year’s event is Todd Avant of NAI Avant and Lee Mashburn of Mashburn Construction, both of whom are previous honorees.

Boyd currently is chairman of the S.C. Chamber of Commerce board of directors and the waterfront steering team. He serves on the executive committee of the Midlands Business Leadership Group and the board of directors of the Midlands Housing Alliance.

Boyd was honored by South Carolina Lawyers Weekly as a recipient of the inaugural 2009 Leadership in Law award. Boyd was named Columbia Real Estate Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers in America, where he has been recognized for more than a decade in the practice areas of antitrust; corporate; mergers and acquisitions; and real estate.

Of receiving the award, Boyd said, “It is a humbling experience. However, it takes all of us — the community at large — to continue working together to make the Midlands a better place to live.”

Funds raised at the March of Dimes Real Estate Award Breakfast will go to research into the causes and preventions of premature birth. Premature birth touches half a million babies and their families every year, including 173 babies in South Carolina in an average week. Babies born too soon are more likely to die or have lifelong disabilities.

Tickets for the awards breakfast are $150 per person or $1,500 for a corporate table of eight. Sponsorship and volunteer opportunities are also available. Please contact the March of Dimes at 803-252-5200 or ewilson@marchofdimes.com for more information.
