1214 Pulaski is a mixed-use project involving the adaptive reuse of an existing one-story brick building and the construction of a two-story building with brick and ribbed metal panels. The two buildings are connected by an open courtyard with green space and a water feature. The second floor of the new structure opens onto a roof terrace overlooking the garden below.

South Carolina Bar Conference Center S.C. Bar Conference Center

This project features two floors of conference and meeting space and a third floor of offices for the continuing education staff. The exterior features deep red brick, arched windows, cast stone accents and unique curved rooflines. Behind the building, a curved canopy welcomes visitors into a gallery space that leads to the atrium and its open monumental stair. Creating informal, light-filled gathering and reception space, the gallery and atrium connect the large conference facility on the lower level with the three smaller conference rooms on the second level.

This 3,600-square-foot freestanding medical and office facility was designed to accommodate up to two separate medical practices. The exterior includes extensive masonry detailing, tumbled brick, stucco accents, architectural roof shingles and custom built canopies that are supported by stone columns that cover each office entrance. The building interior includes energy-efficient windows and doors, designer lighting treatments, hardwood floors, custom cabinets and casework.

The 28-acre site consists of 368 living units with expansive features, including a 10,000-square-foot amenities building with a well-appointed club room, cybercafe, cinema, workout room and climbing wall, and yoga room, as well as a swimming pool and volleyball court. Units include two-, three-, and four-bedroom arrangements with wood flooring, cabinetry, marble countertops and tiled showers.

This 465,600-square-foot regional distribution center will contain 171 shipping and receiving dock doors and 311 truck trailer parking spaces on 52.4 acres. The building frame is a load-bearing concrete tilt-up wall panel system with a steel framed roof system.

Middle School Seven Middle School Seven

Richland School District Two’s new middle school will initially accommodate 1,050 students. The 40-acre site includes play fields and a planned area for a future center magnet program. The design features energy-efficient mechanical systems and the use of local and recycled materials. The plan includes three academic wings with flexible, collaborative central spaces. Within each house are larger flexible classrooms that open via large folding glass doors into two-story collaboration areas full of daylight from the clerestory above.

Shop Grove Commerce Park is a planned Class “A,” 132-acre light industrial park that is currently being developed to service the demand for both land and industrial space in the Columbia market. The park will be developed in three phases, with the first phase scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2010. This park provides access to Interstates 26 and 77. This well-lighted, restricted park will also feature off-site detention and easy access to all utilities. CB Richard Ellis Columbia has been selected as the exclusive developer agent for the park.

This 5,000-square-foot industrial building project includes an energy-efficient thermal design, BASF Smartkote heat-reflecting walls and standing-seam roof panels. Exterior features include split-face block spanning the lower portion of the building and extensive brick accented masonry spanning the entry of the building. The large brick entrance punctuates the building’s facade, and a custom steel canopy covers the entry door. The facility features roof-concealing parapets, architectural panels and enhanced outdoor lighting and landscape detailing.

The Lexington Richland Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council facility is a new LEED-accredited, 60,079-square-foot building intended to house 80 employees and consolidate operations into one administrative and service center. The building is conventional steel with metal stud infill, standing-seam metal roof and brick veneer. The building steps down in three distinct phases to take advantage of the grade of the site.

Abacus Planning Group

For this new office space, existing interior partitions were removed to expose a simple, open structure. A new clerestory was inserted above a central column line, creating a light monitor made of aluminum and glass along the main spine of the building. The expansiveness of the interior space is preserved with the use of glass partitions and three-quarter-height “thick walls” of custom wood casework to separate public and private zones within the building.

Granby Creek Pier Repair

One of two concrete piers supporting a 60” reinforced concrete sanitary sewer line crossing Rocky Branch settled due to scour of the soil supporting the footing. The pier was straightened and steel piles were installed to provide additional support to the pier prior to additional concrete being poured to enlarge the area of the existing footing to provide more bearing. A similar procedure was performed at the opposite pier as a proactive measure to prevent possible future settlement of that pier. Soil anchors will be installed through the piers and into the bank, along with reinforcing steel framing.

The Hershey Creamery Co.’s new 3,150-square-foot storage and distribution facility is located within the Columbia Industrial Park. Exterior features of this structure include split face block with extensive masonry detailing across the base of the building, architectural wall panels, BASF SMARTKOTE heat-reflecting wall and standing seam roof panels. Custom stacked-stone storefronts interpose the building’s façade which are accentuated by bronze framing, glass and decorative lighting fixtures; the entrances are then capped by custom built canopies.
