The Green Building Council of Greater Columbia has announced the first certified green home in the Build Green Greater Columbia program.
Carolina Log Center, a Home Builders Association and Green Building Council member company, built the home.
The home, located in Leesville, is also a certified Energy Star home. It is certified as a Gold level green home in the National Green Building Certification Program administered by the National Association of Home Builders Research Center.
“Log homes are naturally energy-efficient simply due to the building materials and construction techniques,” said Bill Seymour of Carolina Log Center.
The home is 1,983 square feet and has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. It features Northern white cedar logs, a covered front porch, a large screened-in porch in the back and oak hardwood floors.
Special green features include log exterior walls with a special insulation package, energy-efficient windows and patio doors, large overhangs, low-flow fixtures and a 92% efficient HVAC system.
The Build Green Greater Columbia program is administered by the Green Building Council of Greater Columbia, which is a council of the Home Builders Association of Greater Columbia and is affiliated with the National Association of Home Builders’ green building program.
